Early June Update

Hello Writers!

We're transitioning to a slightly different course release model. In order to bring more asynchronous courses to our students, we'll be cutting back on the number of webinars. We've been doing four to six webinars a month. Now we'll do one or two. But we do plan to have at least one multi-week asynchronous course each month!

Speaking of webinars, we have two great ones coming soon. The first of these is on June 12 called Ad Copy for Authors taught by professional ad copy author Angelique Fawns. On June 22nd, agent and editor Arley Sorg leads Writing to Theme.

Also, I've added...myself (Jason Sizemore) to the RYA editorial services options. I spent almost ten years editing Apex Magazine, have run Apex Books since 2005, and have a whole host of editing award nominations and award-winning works published under my editorial oversight. I'm proud to join the ranks of Ai Jiang, Richard Thomas, Eugen Bacon, and Rebecca Treasure as in-house editorial service talent!

Finally, be sure to check out the latest FOR WRITERS by notable fantasy and horror author Maurice Broaddus titled "Steampunk as Afrofuturism."

Instructor Angelique Fawns also writes under the name A.M. Fawns and writes true stories about her family’s adventures farming.

FOR WRITERS: Steampunk as Afrofuturism

by Maurice Broaddus

Afrofuturism is hot right now. Ever since Black Panther made its seismic splash, the term has been bandied about and suddenly folks are “discovering” black writers who have been out there doing the thing for years. The original “Pimp My Airship” steampunk short story was published in Apex Magazine in 2009, the beginning of what would be termed “steamfunk” (steampunk …
